The educational mission of the IIN is to foster a lifelong interest in science, engineering and technology by teaching people of all ages about the interdisciplinary field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. To achieve this goal, the IIN provides innovative programs that link our world-renowned researchers and their discoveries to students of all ages, as well as the community at large.
Through a comprehensive educational effort, the IIN informs and nurtures the scientists, engineers, technicians, and teachers of tomorrow, enriches the academic environment, and informs and engages the public.

Through the research, mentorship, and workshops put on by the IIN [REU Program], I was able to see the opportunities and excitement a graduate degree in materials science and engineering could provide. …Not only did it cement my course, but being in an atmosphere such as the IIN and Northwestern University dramatically increased my desire to pursue meaningful and impactful research. I wish to one day lead my own team of researchers either at a university or national laboratory studying nanocomposite water membranes. I am grateful for the IIN providing the infrastructure for me to grow not just as a scientist, but also as a person.
